In reply to <a href="https://stuckinlowgear.com/exploring-the-serengeti-unguided/#comment-946">Kate</a>.

Hello Kate - Are you looking for Mbweha Serengeti, or Mbweha in Tarangire? in Tarangire the site is located at S3.79071° E36.08006°. Unfortunately, I don't have an exact location for Mbweha in the Serengeti, but it is in the Ndutu area. I will send you an email with a screenshot of the approximate location, as well as some other special campsites in the area in case Mbweha is booked. There are signs for these camps for where to turn from the main road, but then the exact camp location may or may not be obvious.

Booking is complicated and not for the feint of heart. Your choices are:
1. Find a tour operator to book for you. This is not a standard service like it is in Southern Africa. I suggest asking Erika at Twiga Lodge in Usa River for either bookings or a referral.
2. Try do tame the online system yourself. It is Byzantine and may be impossible, though I have read of one person who successfully accomplished it. Register here: https://reservations.tanzaniaparks.go.tz:8090/SelfReg.aspx
then login here: https://reservations.tanzaniaparks.go.tz:8090/Login.aspx
and find the help guide. Download and give it your best shot. Rumor is you can now pay by credit card - but beware the exchange rate risk - see this post and read the part about the booking system: https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php/383449-General-observations-following-nearly-3-years-of-living-in-Morogoro-region
3. Book at the gate and roll the dice on availability. Campsite allocation in the Serengeti is always painful. As long as you've paid for a special campsite the rangers will help you find a good spot if there is a snafu - but I suggest doing this midday, not waiting until the end of the day as for sure you'll find yourself driving around in the dark.
