Hi Andrew, thanks so much for your quick reply! Really appreciated! I think, we will give it a try and book 2 nights with Stretch. We plan to stay for 6 nights in total, so plenty of time for the small beautiful things, which we also enjoy very much, especially birding. I have the Bradt Guide and will have a look as well. Thanks again, best regards from Switzerland. Vanessa

Hello Vanessa - so glad you like the blog and that it has been helpful for you. Stretch is excellent. I will say that he is 100% focused on the big charismatic animals (elephants, lions, etc.) and doesn't dally too much on the smaller but still beautiful things. I think most people will have an absolutely one-of-a-kind experience with him, but there are a few who don't like his style. He will get you closer to animals than anyone, and some say too close. He won't pressure you into it, though, if you're not comfortable, you can hang back and still have an amazing experience. He is probably going to retire at some point soon, so I'd say go for it. I really need to finish the blog post about our time with him. Also Steve at Camp Mana is top shelf, super interesting and knowledgeable. Personally, I would steer away from African Bush Camps. Also, check the Bradt Guide Zimbabwe for some guides you might be able to contact directly.

Hi Andrew, thanks so much for your detailed travel blog articles. I found you earlier, but read about Mana Pools only now, as we are also planning to go there next year. Inspired by your descriptions and several videos, we would also like to spend some time on foot with a proper walking guide. Could you recommend Strech Ferreira? Or do you have any other recommendation? Thank you again for your great writing and hope to meet you some day in Southern Africa. Best regards Vanessa

Hi Kathy - I'm afraid I don't know the "proper way around via the warden's gate". I took a quick look at T4A and the route we took via the Umi river appears to be the most direct route from the main road, or at least I think? The Umi was dry and easy to cross when we were there. I found Matusadona very responsive by email, you could ask for the state of the river before you arrive and any advice.

Hi - thoroughly enjoyed your article on Mana and Tashinga. We are on our way soon and saw that you had gone to Tashinga via the dry season river crossing over the Umi? That was our plan as the croc farm ferry is not an option - it only takes 1 vehicle at a time and we are 2 vehicles plus 2 caravans! Is this a better route than going the proper way around via the warden's gate? Which route is “quicker” or better road? We will be coming from Maabwe bay. Please give us any advise you have and co-ordinates if needed.
Thank you so much!
Kind regards
